Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes Erik ten Hag’s side are not going to Aston Villa with the determination to win.

“The issue for United is going to a tough stadium under a lot of pressure,” Scholes told SuperSport after the game. “I never felt like they went there to try and win. It was more of a self-serving strategy than anything else.”
“But from everything we said before the game, United are a difficult team to play against today and you have to factor in the midweek fixtures – Villa were given a huge boost by the win over Bayern Munich, with a great atmosphere. They were tough today, you could see they had to fight hard.”
