Scholes doesn’t think United will go to Villa to win

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes Erik ten Hag’s side are not going to Aston Villa with the determination to win.

    “The issue for United is going to a tough stadium under a lot of pressure,” Scholes told SuperSport after the game. “I never felt like they went there to try and win. It was more of a self-serving strategy than anything else.”

    “But from everything we said before the game, United are a difficult team to play against today and you have to factor in the midweek fixtures – Villa were given a huge boost by the win over Bayern Munich, with a great atmosphere. They were tough today, you could see they had to fight hard.”

    “For Manchester United, it’s a difficult game to go to Europe on Thursday, a difficult game against Porto with 10 men, so I think it reflects the midweek situation for both clubs.”
